Ricky Ponting, with his 41st Test century, and Michael Clarke, with his 19th, ensured that India's tour, as enjoyable thus far as a cold shower on a winter morning, gained nothing by way of succour and the Ponting said he and Clarke would seek to build their unbroken 251-run partnership.

Former Australian captain who made his debut against Sri Lanka at Perth in 1995 - hit his 13,000th run.

The only two men to have scored more Test runs than Ponting, India's Sachin Tendulkar (15,432) and Rahul Dravid (13,262), were both fielding on Tuesday.

Ricky Ponting says for it's never been about making 13,000 runs or 14,000 runs. It's about doing what I can when it's required of me to get my team through a certain situation in a game.

"You have to be careful not to bat too long. It will be a tough wicket to take 20 wickets if you want to win this game," he said.

They are two worrying aspects to the bowling for Zaheer, Umesh, and Ishant didn't get the ball to swing enough and they even when they had it reversing, it wasn't the late, sharp curve that causes trouble for the four frontline bowlers also couldn't manage world-class consistency and they another one debut wicketkeper only Wriddhiman Saha, impressive behind the stumps.

And the Clarke was dropped on 133 by a diving Laxman at second slip.
